Richard Wayne Hodges, 82, of Bassett, Va., died on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Sovah Health Hospital, Martinsville, Va.

Richard was born April 12, 1941, in Franklin County, Va., to the late Vascar Hodges and the late Hattie Hudson Hodges. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sons, Donald Hodges, Ricky Hodges, and Brian Hodges; brothers, Vascar Jr (Whitey) Hodges, Clyde Hodges; sisters, Minnie Martin, Mazel Marshall.

Richard was a member at New Vision Baptist Church. Richard served his country faithfully in the United States Army. Richard is survived by his son Gary Hodges (Brenda), of Ridgeway, Va; grandchildren, Samantha Chapman (Scott) of Farmville, Va., Elizabeth Zimmerman (Bob) of Ridgeway, Va., Donnie Hall, and Ashley Hodges; great grandchildren, Moira Chapman, Alesha Zimmerman and Calie Zimmerman, Wilson Hodges of Bassett, Va., Riley Hodges (Carolyn) of Bassett, Va., Irene Greer of Henry, Va., Betty Wagoner of Bassett, Va.; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, 3665 Fairystone Park Highway, Bassett, VA, where a funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with Dr J.D. Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ferrum, Va.
