Obituaries

Robert Allen Divers, Sr., 80, of Collinsville, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at SOVAH Health of Martinsville. He was born December 26, 1942, in Martinsville, to the late Jake Ervin Divers and Nellie Mae Divers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Faye Reeves Divers; a son, Christopher Divers; sister, Nancy Turner; grandson, Robert Divers, III; and brother, Duane Divers.

Robert was of the Christian faith and attended First Baptist Church in Collinsville, Virginia. He enjoyed serving as a deacon. He graduated from J.D. Bassett High School in 1961. He was a dedicated employee of Stanleytown Furniture for 50 years, where he worked as a Quality Control Supervisor. He loved coaching youth sports, going to Hardees with his grandchildren, bowling, playing the lottery, and collecting baseball, football, and basketball sports cards.

Robert is survived by his sons, Robert Divers, Jr. (Melissa) and Scott Divers (Lynn); sisters, Barbara Slate and Linda Johnson; brother, J.E. Divers (Carolyn); grandchildren, Nick Cooper, Isabelle Divers, Gabriel Divers, Olivia Divers, Ariel Divers, and Anna Divers; great-grandchild, Brantley Cooper; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday, December 4, 2023, at 11:30 AM at First Baptist Church, 3339 Virginia Ave, Collinsville, with Pastor Larry Cheek and Brother Robbie Divers officiating. The visitation will be one and one half hours prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Roselawn Burial Park.
