Obituaries

Roger Dale Tilley, 72, of Collinsville, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Sovah Health in Martinsville, Virginia. He was born on July 22, 1951, in Lawsonville, North Carolina, to the late Sanford Thomas Tilley and the late Frances Louise Bullins Tilley. He was preceded in death by his spouse, Patsy Ann Crawford Tilley, and one grandson, Brandon Wayne Gillispie.

Roger was a member of the Solid Rock Baptist Church in Collinsville, Virginia. He worked at Fieldcrest Mills for 18 years in the carbon finishing and weaving room. He was a lineman with Pyramid Construction for five years, after which he retired. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and go-kart racing with his family; his pride and joy was his 1969 Pontiac Firebird. He loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren.

Roger is survived by his four children, Rodney Tilley, Cindy Tilley Littles (James), Christopher Tilley, and Jackey Tilley Gillispie Richards (Ronnie); nine grandchildren, Justin Wayne Tilley, Tyler Joseph Tilley, Abbagail Dawn Tilley, Kaylanne Marie Dillon, Nathenial Conner Littles, Deseree Joy Tilley, Jeremy “J.D” Daniel Gillispie, Taylor Danielle Lewis, Brandin Lee Gillispie, and Makayla Breanne Richards; nine great grandchildren; four brothers, Steve Tilley (Linda), Ricky Tilley (Lisa), Timothy Tilley (Eve), and Mark Tilley (Tracey); three sisters, Carolyn Parnell (Bob), Kim Dalton (Timothy), and Lisa McCormick (Ted); and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 1:45 p.m. at the Puckett Family Cemetery, 235 Lost Paradise Lane, Stuart, VA 24171, with Pastor Steven Tilley officiating.
