Obituaries

Sammy Carter, Jr., 63, of Axton, Virginia, passed away Friday, April 4, 2025. He was born October 5, 1961, in Pittsylvania County to the late Samuel Carter, Sr. and Betty Jean Wilson Carter.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Claude Carter.

Sammy was of the Christian faith and attended New Design Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the usher board. He sang in the male chorus and loved to draw. He graduated from Tunstall High School, Class of 1979. Sammy was a quiet man who loved well and in return, was loved and supported by his family and friends. You could often find him telling jokes and making others laugh. Although Sammy’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will contine to inspire and uplift us.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Sylvia Payne; two nieces, Korica Payne and Kniosha Carter; and nephew, Koryan Payne.

There will be a visitation Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 1:00-2:00 PM at New Design Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Family will receive friends at 4148 Still Meadow Road, Axton, Virginia.
