Thomas Leonard Gammons, 85, of Martinsville, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Sovah Health Martinsville. He was born on May 5, 1938, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Zeb William Gammons and Nannie Mae Goins Gammons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Ruth Merkey Gammons; four brothers: Harold Gammons, Clarence Gammons, Edgar Gammons, and Charles Gammons; two sisters, Pauline Martin and Irene Stevens; and one stepson, Nelson Banks.

Leonard was a member of Mercy Crossing Church. He retired as a glass cutter from Virginia Mirror after 40 years. He was an avid fan of Nascar and WWE; he loved hunting, fishing, and restoring hot rod cars.

Leonard is survived by two sons, Tommy Gammons (Beth) and Randolph Gammons (Amanda); one daughter, Angelia Brittingham (Jason); seven grandchildren, Kerri Shaw (Link), Candance Hetzer (Richard), Jacob Gammons (Samantha), Amanda King (Jared), Jordan Gammons, Heather Smith, and Jamie Brittingham; seven great-grandchildren, Landon Shaw, Colin Shaw, Xavier Hetzer, Cash Hetzer, Rachael Martin, Addison Spears, Marleigh Gammons, Alyssa Smith, and Kylie Dillon; two brothers, Sammy Gammons and Ralph Gammons; two sisters, Inez Roberts and Betty Ruth Spencer; and a special friend and mother of his children, Joy Gammons; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Billy Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A burial will be held at Henry Memorial Park immediately following the service.
