Obituaries

Timothy E. Tolbert, 59, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at his residence. He was born on September 27, 1964, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Ralph Tolbert and Linda Carter Tolbert. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Dewey Arvin Tolbert and Ina Mae Tolbert, and his maternal grandparents, Johnnie Carter and Lila Carter.

Timothy loved sports; he would enjoy going to watch any live basketball, football, or NASCAR event. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren; they had a special place in his heart.

In addition to his mother, Linda Carter Tolbert, Timothy is survived by his son, Justin Tolbert (Melanie); two sisters, Denise Cassell (Jr.) and Tina Helms (Johnny); three grandchildren, Eren Tolbert, Caitlin Tolbert, and Tyler Tolbert; and one great-grandchild, Kalani Tolbert-Adkins; one niece, Kimberly Helms-Stout (Dave); four nephews, John Helms Jr., Charles Helms, Matthew Cassell (Lindsey), and Dylan Cassell (Lindsey); two aunts; six uncles; and a host of other cousins, family, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at the Old Spoon Creek Cemetery in Critz, Virginia, with Pastor Ed Hartman officiating.
