Obituaries

On Monday, November 13, 2023, Wanda M. Giles 76, of Norman Ln., Axton, VA transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at her residence. She was born in Henry County, VA the daughter of Howard Lee Moyer, and Mable Martin Moyer who preceded her in death.

In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis “Peanut” Giles, and three sisters, Iris Jean Giles, Cornelia Mary Giles, and Regina Wade.

Wanda was a faithful member of St. Paul Holiness Church where she served as an Usher until her health began to fail her. She retired from the Tultex Corporation after many years of service.

Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Hollie Coles (John), and Mia Giles Hairston (Garry) both of Axton, VA; two sons, Phillip R. Giles, and Derek Giles both of Axton, VA; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister Shan Moyer of Axton, VA; one brother, Howard Moyer of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Holiness Church, 2383 Martin Ln., Axton, VA with Elder Barry Dillard, Eulogist. The burial will follow at the Giles Family Cemetery, Norman Ln., Axton, VA. A public viewing will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 97 Norman Ln., Axton, VA.
