At its August 25th meeting, the Patrick County Board of Supervisors approved a contract with Ambulance Services of Lexington, Inc. (DBA Patrick County EMS) to transition Patrick County’s paid EMS staff, commonly known as Station 8, from county oversight to management under Patrick County EMS by the end of the calendar year.
All current Station 8 employees will be offered employment with Ambulance Services of Lexington, Inc./Patrick County EMS, ensuring a seamless transition and continuity of service. Board members emphasized that this partnership will not reduce support for the county’s volunteer rescue squads and fire departments. To further strengthen coordination, the County will maintain an Emergency Management Coordinator position.
This role will support the County during large-scale emergencies and natural disasters, serve as liaison between volunteer agencies and the Board of Supervisors, manage EMS and emergency-related grants, and provide training and operational support.
Patrick County EMS (Ambulance Services of Lexington) is committing $2 million to enhance EMS operations in Patrick County. This investment includes the purchase of new ambulances and advanced training opportunities for EMS personnel. Additionally, Patrick County EMS, partnering with Braden Health, will handle its own direct billing, further streamlining operations.
“We deeply appreciate the community’s support of the hospital reopening effort and this creative solution to provide high-quality emergency care for our citizens,” Jonathan Wood, Chair of the Patrick County Board of Supervisors, stated. “This partnership strengthens our emergency response capacity while continuing to honor the critical role of our volunteers.”
