Obituary For David Gerard Sanders

David Gerard Sanders, 66, of Collinsville, VA died on January 2, 2025. He was born in Mobile, AL, May 1,1958 to Clarence “Sandy” and Geraldine Sanders. David had lived in Collinsville since 1969. He graduated from Fieldale-Collinsville High School and attended Virginia College. David worked at various times for Stanley Furniture, American of Martinsville, Hanes, Inc. and most recently at Applied Felts. David was a long-time member of Living Waters Church in Ridgeway, VA. David loved sports and was an avid life-long Alabama football fan. He was also a New York Jets fan. He loved NASCAR and was a fan of many of the “older” NASCAR drivers such as Davey Allison, Ernie Irvan and Tony Stewart.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine Sanders Jacobson, his father, Clarence Harold “Sandy” Sanders and his brother, Michael William Sanders, a beloved uncle, Gerard Thomas Neely, his maternal and paternal grandparents and his best friend Todd Merriman.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons Joseph Sanders and Gerard Sanders; sister, Christine Sanders; the mother of his sons, Donna Bouldin Sanders, friends Jeanne and Mike Hairfield, Chuck Ellis, other friends and many cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mulberry Creek Nursing and Rehab for their compassionate care during David’s final years. A special thank you to Deborah Dillard and Wendy Jeffries for their tireless efforts and the care and compassion they showed to David and our family.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday January 9, 2025, at 2:00pm at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Bud Sedwick and Pastor Harry Johnston officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A burial will follow at Blackberry Baptist Church Cemetery.
