Obituaries

Shelby Jean Bernard Nemeth, 81, of Martinsville, Virginia, originally from Callaway, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. She was born February 2, 1943, to the late Willard Bernard and Kasey Jones Bernard.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Verna Gravely and brothers, Willard “Billy” Bernard and Ronald “Ronnie” Bernard; granddaughter, Jennifer Marie Nemeth.

Shelby was of the Methodist faith and attended Highland Methodist Church in Callaway, Virginia. She was a dedicated to her work and was employed by Lacy Manufacturing and Bassett Walker as a seamstress for over thirty years. Shelby then went to work at the Tanglewood Mall for JC Penney and found that retail was something she really enjoyed. She was a hard worker and put her whole heart into everything she did. Shelby loved working with people and was a very tender-hearted person that would do anything to help anyone in need and always looked for the best in others. Her greatest treasure was her family whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Nemeth (Joyce), and sisters, Mary Frances Gilliams and Patricia Custer; grandson, Joseph “Joe” Nemeth, Jr. (Sarah); great-grandson, Landon Nemeth.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Bill Preskitt officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway, Virginia.
