Patrick County deputy injured during arrest

A Stuart man is in custody following an altercation with a Patrick County Sheriff’s Deputy. Michael Paul McAdams, 29, was arrested early Friday morning and charged with Obstruction of Justice by Force, Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Destruction of Property, and Interfering with the Proprty Rights of Another, according to Sheriff Dan Smith.

The incident began at 6:05 AM when the Patrick County 911 Communication Center received a call in reference to a suspicious male subject outside of the caller’s home on Spring Road in Patrick Springs. Senior Deputy Noah Wolfe responded and found McAdams allegedly trying to force his way into the basement of the home. Wolfe attempted to take McAdams into custody, at which time McAdams allegedly resisted and a physical struggle ensued. Wolfe broke his collar bone during the physical altercation when both he and McAdams fell to the ground. Wolfe was able to keep McAdams pinned to the ground during the struggle until Senior Deputy Doug Perry arrived and was able to handcuff the suspect. Wolfe was treated at SOVAH Hospital in Martinsville and was released on Friday afternoon. Sheriff Smith stated that Wolfe faces a minimum 6 to 8 week recovery. “At this point, we are hoping that surgery can be avoided, and we are grateful that it wasn’t worse, sadly, officers are killed weekly across our nation in scenarios identical to this,” Smith said in the release.

McAdams is being held in the Patrick County jail without bond.
