The Library of Congress has announced the 25 films it has selected to join the National Film Registry in 2024.
Its film selections for this year, which were announced on Tuesday, go back almost 130 years and span from the silent film era to a 2010 drama about the creation of Facebook.
Among the titles selected are Dirty Dancing, Beverly Hills Cop, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, My Own Private Idaho, Spy Kids, No Country for Old Men and The Social Network. These 25 new selections bring the total number of films in the registry to 900. They’ll either join the moving image collection items held in the Library of Congress or be preserved in coordination with copyright holders or different film archives.
The public submits nominations to be considered to join the archive. Over 6,700 submissions were made this year, and the Library of Congress chose 25 of them based on “their cultural, historic or aesthetic importance to preserve the nation’s film heritage,” according to Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden.

Sadie Sink is on a quest to save a cherished family heirloom in the trailer for O’Dessa.
The original rock opera is set to premiere on Hulu on March 13. Written and directed by Geremy Jasper, the film follows a farm girl, played by Sink, who heads out on an epic quest.
“Her journey leads her to a strange and dangerous city where she meets her one true love — but in order to save his soul, she must put the power of destiny and song to the ultimate test,” the film’s logline reads.
Jasper collaborated with Jason Binnick to write and produce 16 original songs for the film, as the pair previously did on Jasper’s debut feature, the 2017 film Patti Cake$.
Kelvin Harrison Jr., Murray Bartlett and Regina Hall also star in the film.
“Name’s O’Dessa,” Sink says in the trailer. “My daddy used to tell me my singing had the power to bring light to the darkness and change things.”
As the trailer goes on, O’Dessa makes her way to Satylite City, which is described to her as a depraved and sinful place. There, she finds romance with Euri Dervish, played by Harrison Jr., and discovers the evil Plutonovitch, played by Bartlett.
“This world is cruel, O’Dessa,” Euri tells her in the trailer. “Maybe it doesn’t have to be,” she responds.
Michael Gottwald and Noah Stahl produced the film, which debuts at the 2025 South by Southwest Film and TV Festival on March 8.
While being interviewed on the red carpet for his new film Mickey 17, Pattinson said it’s strange to now have a fanbase that is dominated by men.
When asked about so many male fans coming out to support him at the premiere, the actor said, “It’s quite strange.”
“There’s like a bunch of guys, which is a new one for me!” Pattinson continued.
The switchup is likely due to Pattinson starring as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Matt Reeves’ 2022 DC superhero film The Batman. He started his career, however, with a mostly woman-dominated fanbase after starring as Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise.
Reeves’ The Batman earned $772 million at the global box office. A sequel to that film is set to go into production at the end of 2025, with a scheduled release date of Oct. 1, 2027.
Pattinson spoke about The Batman sequel to Variety at the Mickey 17 London premiere.
“I know what it’s about but I can’t tell anyone, but it’s like, it’s very cool,” Pattinson said. “It’s very exciting.”
