Apple TV says ‘Shrinking’ will return for season 2 in October
Apple TV+ has revealed its Jason Segel/Harrison Ford dramedy Shrinking will return for a 12-episode second season on Oct. 16.
Co-created by Segel and Ted Lasso writers Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, the show’s second season will debut with two installments, followed by one new episode every subsequent Wednesday until a Dec. 25 finale.
In addition to Segel and Ford, Shrinking stars Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell and Ted McGinley. Christa Miller also appears, and Goldstein will pop in as a special guest star in season 2.
FX has announced its vampire mockumentary series What We Do in the Shadows will return for its sixth and final season on Oct. 21.
The first three installments of the 11-episode swan song (or bat song) will premiere on that date; all episodes will stream the next day on Hulu, where fans can also stream all five previous seasons.
Newly minted Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy nominee Matt Berry, along with costars Kayvan Novak, Mark Proksch and Kristen Schaal, as well as executive producer/writer Paul Simms and executive producer/director Kyle Newacheck, will kick off a Farewell Tour at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday.
The Hall H panel will also showcase a new episode from the forthcoming season.
Based on the cult hit film of the same name from executive producers Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, the show was recently nominated for eight Primetime Emmys and centers on a group of vampire roommates “as they navigate the modern world of Staten Island” in Niewww Yawwk Citay, as Berry’s Laszlo would pronounce it.
FX teases of the new season, “Nandor (Novak), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Laszlo, Colin (Proksch) and Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) will enter the workforce, visit New Hampshire, go to a human dinner party, fête The Baron and conjure a demon — all while trying to find their place and their purpose in this crazy, mixed-up world.”
Disney is the parent company of FX, Hulu and ABC News.
While speaking at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago Wednesday evening, Mindy Kaling gave a shout-out to Ben Affleck, a day after Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce to end their highly publicized second chance at love.
From the podium, Mindy trumpeted, “I couldn’t leave here without giving a shout-out to the amazing delegation from my home state, Massachusetts. I love you, Massachusetts!”
She added, “Everyone is always hating on us! But they just don’t get it! Go Sox! Go [Celtics star] Jayson Tatum! Ben Affleck, hang in there!”
She added, “Dunkin’ Donuts is the best coffee in the world!” The franchise is a New England staple, which is why Massachusetts-born-and-raised Affleck has partnered with the brand.
Other than sharing a home state, Kaling goes way back with Ben — sort of.
Mindy co-wrote and starred in a hit 2003 off-Broadway play called Matt and Ben, a comedic take on Matt Damon‘s longtime friendship with Affleck and their collaboration on the Oscar-winning script for Good Will Hunting.
The production landed Kaling a writing job on NBC’s The Office, in which she also co-starred and eventually co-produced.
Incidentally, Kaling played Damon in Matt & Ben, with her co-writer Brenda Withers as Affleck.
The first photos of the Bridgerton season 4 stars are officially out, featuring joint shots with season leads Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha.
Netflix dropped the new images on Monday and also announced that season 4 of the Regency era series “is officially in production.”
In the upcoming season, Ha is slated to play the love interest of Thompson’s character, Benedict Bridgerton.
The streamer called Ha’s character, Sophie Baek, “a victim of tragic circumstances.”
In one of the new photos, Thompson and Ha are seen sitting next to one another on what appears to be a production cart. Thompson is dressed in a gray tweed three-piece suit, a gray tweed overcoat and a white button down, while Ha sports an oxblood leather trench coat, a brown windowpane tweed suit and gold jewelry.
Speaking with Tudum, Netflix’s official site, about the highly anticipated upcoming season, Thompson said season 4 is “striking” because it features “the struggle between a proper old-school fairy tale — the romance of it — and the actual reality of the world.”
“You have to hold both of them — the romance and the reality — in your hand,” he said. “In its best version, ‘true love’ happens in the middle of that.”
He added, “The storyline is a bit of a twist on Cinderella. You remember being told those stories as a child — the magic and the romance of them. It’s really exciting to have that weaved into the world that we know of Bridgerton. … It’s such a great story, but it’s also, I hope, really relatable.”
