Appalachian Power has asked the State Corporation Commission of Virginia to allow it to sell $1.2 billion worth of bonds to support the operations of two power plants and for $140 million from the state to pay for storm repair costs incurred last year and earlier this year.
If approved, a customer’s power bill will drop $11.44 a month for every 1,000 kilowatt-hours used. If approved, the reduction would start next spring.
