Ringo Starr appears to confirm who’ll play him in Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies

ABC/Randy Holmes

Ringo Starr appears to have confirmed the rumors that Saltburn star Barry Keoghan is going to play him in Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles movies.

Back in February, Mendes announced plans to make four separate Beatles movies, one for each member — Ringo, Paul McCartneyJohn Lennon and George Harrison — and almost immediately speculation began as to who’ll play the Fab Four, with Keoghan’s name mentioned for Ringo.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 84-year-old Ringo appeared to let it slip that the rumor is true.

When asked how he feels about Keoghan playing him, Ringo shared, “Well, I think it’s great. I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many.”

So far there’s been no official announcement about the casting.

Mendes’ films will be made by Sony Pictures, and will mark the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and The Beatles have granted a studio the rights to the life stories of band members and their legendary catalog of music. Each film will be told from the point of view of one of the band members.

The live-action Lilo & Stitch movie has a brand-new teaser for its reimagined 2025 film.

In the teaser released by Disney on Monday, a swooping shot of an ocean reveals a beach where Stitch can be seen in live-action form wreaking havoc, loudly giggling while destroying sand castles. The character maintained his long droopy ears and blue fur, made iconic in the 2002 original movie.

“A live-action reimagining of Disney’s 2002 animated classic, Lilo & Stitch is the wildly funny and touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl and the fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family,” read a synopsis for the film.

Maia Kealoha, Sydney Elizabeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere and Chris Sanders, the original voice of Stitch, are set to star, with Courtney B. Vance and Zach Galifianakis in key roles. Dean Fleischer Camp directs the film.

The final shot of the teaser notes that Lilo & Stitch is set to hit theaters on Memorial Day 2025, while Stitch sniffs and licks the message off the screen.

The 2002 version of the film featured the story of two sisters attempting to move on from the death of their parents, who adopt a strange-looking creature.

The film brought in over $245 million in worldwide box office and sprouted several follow-up projects, including Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch.

Jonathan Eirich and Dan Lin will produce the new film with Louie Provost, Tom Peitzman and Ryan Halprin executive producing.

Presley Ann/Getty Images for CTAOP

Glen Powell is the latest celebrity to have his own lookalike contest.

The event, which happened on Sunday, took place in Austin, Texas. Glen’s mother, Cyndy Powell, judged the competition, which awarded its winner $5, a cowboy hat and free queso from the restaurant Torchy’s for one year.

While Glen wasn’t there in person, he did appear via FaceTime. According to Variety, he also filmed a special video message, in which he told winner Maxwell Braunstein that his parents or any family member of his choice could appear in a cameo in his next film.

“Welcome to the Justin Hartley lookalike contest,” he joked in the video. “In all seriousness, I have assembled you here today for an important mission. I want to pull off a heist, and we don’t need masks because we all have the same face. It’s the perfect crime! They can’t get all of us because we are one: a criminal Glenterprise.”

He went on to explain the special cameo prize.

“You may know that my parents make a cameo in every movie I make, but today the winner of the Glen Powell lookalike contest wins their parents, or any family member of their choice, a cameo in my next movie,” Glen said. “I am completely serious. This is a cash-value prize of $6 billion.”

The Karate Kid star Ralph Macchio was supported by his family at his recent Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony.

The actor received the honor on Wednesday and gave shout-outs to his wife, Phyllis, and their children, Julia and Daniel, during his heartfelt speech.

“My beautiful wife, my best friend, Phyllis, who simultaneously grounds and elevates me, I love you so much,” Macchio said. “Our partnership in life is everything. None of this is happening without you. Thank you for choosing me … life is all the richer to walk in lockstep with you. I am not here without you.”

He called his children “my two heroes,” adding, “I’m so proud of you guys. You make me way better than I am.”

Macchio’s star was placed adjacent to the one honoring his late Karate Kid co-star Pat Morita, who played Mr. Miyagi, the mentor to Macchio’s character Daniel LaRusso in the 1984 film and its two sequels. Morita also returned for the fourth film, starring Hilary Swank.

Morita died in 2005 at age 73.

“To have this star placed right next to my acting partner from that film, the great Pat Morita, is so meaningful to me, so powerful to me,” Macchio said Wednesday. “Our partnership is something I always described as a soulful magic.”
