Jimmy Fallon calls sending daughters to summer camp “traumatic”
Jimmy Fallon‘s daughters, Winnie, 11, and Frances, 10, recently marked a new milestone, attending their first sleep away summer camp, and the Tonight Show host says it was “traumatic” for him and his wife.
“I don’t know why they asked us to go,” Jimmy tells E! News. “I go, ‘Why would you want to go somewhere else? You have such a great life here with dad and mom.’ They’re like, ‘We’re ready to go.’ And they had the best time.”
However, Fallon, 49, says he and his wife, Nancy Juvonen, didn’t handle the situation quite so well.
“It was so sad for me and my wife,” he shared. “You couldn’t talk to them. There was a call time between 10:30 and 10:45. It was like they were in prison.”
“It’s like, ‘I’m coming to get you out honey. You didn’t do anything wrong. I’m coming to get you,’” joked Fallon. “It was a very traumatic summer for us. They’re growing up and it’s all kind of happening.”
Francis Ford Coppola‘s anticipated, mostly self-funded Megalopolis will screen as part of the upcoming Toronto Film Festival.
The Oscar-winning filmmaker’s star-packed movie, which boasts a cast featuring Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Dustin Hoffman and more, will play the evening of Monday, Sept. 9, at the Festival’s Roy Thomson Hall. It will also screen the following evening at Scotiabank Theatre Toronto.
Megalopolis made its festival premiere on May 16 at the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival.
Lionsgate will release the film in theaters on Sept. 27.
At San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday night, Marvel Studios figuratively blew the roof off of the famous Hall H with a literal unmasking of Robert Downey Jr. in an announcement of his return to the MCU.
But he won’t be reprising as Tony Stark/Iron Man, who perished in Avengers: Endgame: The Oscar winner will be breaking bad as Dr. Victor Von Doom — aka one of Marvel Comics’ original villains, Dr. Doom.
Studio head Kevin Feige first announced that Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo were also returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a pair of forthcoming films, Avengers:Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Feige was flanked by rows of baddies in green robes wearing Doom’s iconic metal mask.
Joe Russo then said, “As proof of the unlimited possibilities of the Marvel [Multiverse], we give you the one person who could play Victor Von Doom.”
At this, a figure wearing a green suit emerged, dramatically walked to the front of the stage, and took off his silver mask, revealing Downey’s face — to a thunderous response from the crowd.
“New mask, same task,” Downey said, referring to the difference between Iron Man’s faceplate and Doom’s covering. He added, “I tell ya, I like playing complicated characters.”
As reported, the Oppenheimer star had hinted he reconsidered a return to Marvel, after 10 appearances as Stark beginning with 2008’s Iron Man. For his part, Kevin Feige insisted to Vanity Fair they’d never “magically undo” Stark’s climactic Endgame sacrifice — and apparently the Multiverse will provide a way to bring Downey back without doing just that.
Downey later posted a photo of himself face to face with the mask, to which his fellow Avenger Mark Ruffalo, aka The Hulk, commented “green suits you.”
Marvel Studios is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.
Netflix has just announced it is holding its fourth annual Geeked Week, starting Sept. 16 and “culminating with a live, in-person fan event” in Atlanta on the evening of Sept. 19.
The streaming giant notes it will be the first time its celebration of nerd-friendly titles — from live-action shows like Squid Game, Stranger Things, Wednesday and Avatar: The Last Airbender to anime titles including Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis Evangelion — will be live.
More details on the week of programming will be released in the coming weeks, but last year’s celebration saw the streaming service debut a slew of new trailers, teases for video games and celebrity interviews.
