Obituaries

Cynthia Ann Bowles, 64, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023. She was born June 23, 1959, in Axton, Virginia, to the late Kenneth Wayne Brown and Bertha Marie Matherly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Marie Brown (Poole), and a brother, Carlton Ray Brown.

Cynthia attended Souls Harbor Holiness Church where she served as secretary and primary Sunday School teacher. She received an associate degree from National Business College, and was employed by Valley Health Care in Danville as a clinical aid for 11 years. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and needlepoint, and she loved her church.

She is survived by three special nephews; Kenneth Michael Brown, Curtis Ray Wells, and Jerry Wayne Morgan Jr.; three other nephews and three other nieces; sister, Theresa Dalton (Brown); brother, Kenneth Edward Brown; paternal grandparents, Rev. Roy Edward Brown and Lois Moxley Brown; maternal grandparents, William Paul Matherly and Arebelle Hammock; step-father, Calvin Curtis Craig; and 19 great nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 1:00 PM, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel, 1425 Greensboro Road, Martinsville, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
