Obituaries

Kenneth Lee "Jack" Weeks, AKA "Papa," 92, of Bassett, Va., passed away peacefully on August 12, 2023, at Stanleytown Health and Rehab Center. He was born on September 27, 1930, in Floyd, Va., to the late John Weeks and Essie Reed Weeks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Reva Weeks Turner, and his nephew, Edward Turner.

Papa was a longtime member of Fair Haven Fellowship Church, where he enjoyed the worship and fellowship he found there. He joined the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. After serving our country, Papa returned home, where he worked at Bassett Furniture for over 35 years. When not hard at work, Papa loved spending time with his family, going to White Lake with his family, and spoiling his FAVORITE great-grandchildren and his two granddaughters.

Papa is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Mary Elizabeth Dalton Weeks; daughter, Brenda Moore; two granddaughters, Amy Moore (Travis) and Poppy Moore; two great-granddaughters, Kelli Moore (Joey) and Hailee Moore; great-grandson, Jake Meeks (Payton); and his nephew, Michael Turner.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening, August 17, 2023, at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, where a funeral service will be conducted the following day at 12 Noon, with Pastor Randy Sawyer presiding. Burial will follow in Henry Memorial Park, Bassett, VA. The family will also receive visitors at the home throughout the week.

The Weeks family wishes to extend their immense gratitude to the caring staff at Stanleytown, especially Brittney, Stephanie, Alexis ("the little girl from Fork Mountain"), Josh, and Kylie ("the lady in green") for taking such good care of Papa. They also extend their heartfelt thanks to their wonderful neighbor, Dwayne Adkins; his dear friend, Bennie Plybon; as well as their family and friends who have stood by their sides during this time.
