Obituary For Wendy Tew Pruitt
Wendy Tew Pruitt of Collinsville, VA, returned home to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, August 19, 2023.
She was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, on February 14, 1957, to Jerome D. Tew and the late Sarah Lucille Tew. With her father in the Air Force, she lived all over the US, Okinawa Japan, and in the Philippines. She had four younger brothers that she loved dearly.
Wendy attended Ricks College and BYU where she earned a degree in Psychology and Early Childhood Development. She met the love of her life, Steven Pruitt, when living in Greensboro, NC. They went on to marry in 1978. This union brought four daughters and one son to form their eternal family.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Sarah Lucille Yow Tew, daughter Melissa Pruitt Taylor, son-in-law, David Taylor, beloved Aunt Patsy Yow, and several aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her loving husband Steven Pruitt; children, Heather Pruitt, Tiffanie Bryant (Chris), Jacqueline Tracy (Kurt), Matthew Pruitt, and Christopher Campbell; father, Jerome D. Tew; brothers, Jerry Tew, Danny Tew, David Tew, Brian Tew; grandchildren, Nori Lopez, Braxton Taylor, Chloe Bryant, Ella Bryant, Skyler Lopez, Hadley Bryant, Luke Bryant; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins on the Yow and Tew sides.
If you knew Wendy, you knew her fun personality. She was the life of the party and never shied from talking to strangers and making new friends. She had a gift for making people laugh and for making friends feel like family. She was a “second mom” to many and had a gift for making others feel loved.
One of her favorite things to say when something didn’t work out the way she had hoped was, “I tried”.
Wendy was a beacon of light to many people. She was active in her children’s school activities by making crafts and helping with the PTA. Her many talents that made her well-known included her amazing cooking, decorating, sewing, floral arranging, crocheting, quilting, etc. She made costumes for Halloween, school plays, church events, and even prom dresses. She even made a wedding dress for each daughter when they married.
She adored her grandchildren and strived to be at each of their important life events such as births and baptisms.
Wendy was an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was known for her continued service within her church and loved to serve and lift others in need. Her unwavering faith was one of the traits that made her special. She truly loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her Heavenly Father.
Wendy will be greatly missed by the many people that knew her. She leaves behind a great legacy.
The Pruitt family would like to thank all of their friends and family for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. They would also like to extend a huge thank you to the wonderful staff of Duke University Hospital, especially the nurses and Cardiac doctors, as well as the staff of Hock Family Hospice in Durham, NC.
A viewing with family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 10-11 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 25 Riverside Dr, Bassett, VA 24055. A funeral service will then be held in the chapel from 11 am to noon.
