Two dead, three injured after man drives into tavern patio in Minnesota
(ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn.) — Two people are dead, and three were left injured after authorities say a man drove into the patio area of a tavern in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, on Sunday.
Authorities responded to a call of an incident at the Park Tavern in St. Louis Park around 8 p.m. local time.
According to a rep for the St. Louis Park Police, surveillance footage shows the driver going into the establishment’s parking lot, attempting to park and then driving into Park Tavern’s outside patio. Police have not released the video.
The incident left two dead and three injured. Information on the conditions of the injured individuals was not immediately available.
Police arrested the driver for criminal vehicular homicide.
The Minnesota State Patrol are performing a reconstruction of the incident, police said. An official said the investigation is ongoing.

(BUTLER, Pa.) — There may have been radio traffic from local police that the Secret Service didn’t have access to that could’ve proved crucial to stopping former President Donald Trump from going on stage the day of the assassination attempt, the acting director of the Secret Service said Friday.
“It was so apparent to me that in this incident, in the final 30 seconds, which has been the focus of what happened before the assailant opened fire, there was clearly radio transmissions that may have happened on that local radio net that we did not have,” acting Director Ronald Rowe said at a news conference. “And so, we have to do a better job of collocating, leveraging that counterpart system, and this is going to drive our operations going forward.”
Rowe said the shooting was a Secret Service failure alone.
“In no way should any state or local agency supporting us in Butler on July 13 be held responsible,” he said.
One spectator was killed and two were hurt in the assassination attempt at a July 13 election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump suffered a graze wound to his ear. The gunman was killed by snipers.
Rowe said July 13 was the first time the Secret Service’s counter snipers were deployed to a Trump rally this year. Going forward, he said the Secret Service will have counter snipers at all events with presidential candidates.
Rowe said there were two command posts: one post with the Secret Service and Pennsylvania State Police, and one post with local police. He said it was “unique” that there were two security command posts, and in the future, he will make sure everyone is in the same room.
Rowe also walked through the timeline.
On July 8, agents from the Pittsburgh field office conducted a walkthrough of the event, he said. On July 10, the Secret Service counter sniper and technical security personnel arrived in Pittsburgh and began advanced planning for their teams, he said.
On July 12, the build-out of the campaign rally site began, he said, and continued through the early morning hours of July 13.
The morning of July 13, a site briefing was conducted with Secret Service personnel and law enforcement partners supporting the event, Rowe said. Secret Service personnel took their posts and a technical security sweep of the protective site started before the site opened to event staff, vendors and the public, he said.
About 15,000 people came to the rally, Rowe said.
At 5:53 p.m., the Secret Service counter sniper team leader texted the Secret Service counter sniper teams that local police were looking for a suspicious individual who was outside of the perimeter, lurking around the AGR building, Rowe said.
“At this time, Secret Service personnel were operating with the knowledge that local law enforcement was working on an issue of a suspicious individual,” Rowe said.
“Neither the Secret Service counter sniper teams, nor members of the former president’s security detail, had any knowledge that there was a man on the roof of the AGR building with a firearm,” he said.
At 6:11 p.m., the gunman’s first shots were fired, he said. Within three seconds, Trump’s detail rushed the stage and shielded him with their own bodies, Rowe said.
He said video from that day affirmed there should’ve been better coverage.
“We should have had better protection for the protectee. We should have had better coverage on that roofline,” Rowe said.
Going forward, Rowe said, he’s directed each special agent in charge — who oversee the Secret Service’s field offices across the U.S. — to be precise and clear with state and local partners.
“We’re not going to have this assumption that, ‘Oh, we think that they have it,’ and we’re going to we’re going to work together,” he said. “We’re going to have good, hard, fierce conversations about what we’re going to do, and then we’re going to go out there, and we’re going to make all of these venues secure moving forward.”
(NEW YORK) — Firefighting teams battling the southern California Line Fire achieved 5% containment of the blaze Monday night, with 23,714 acres burned.
Cal Fire’s latest update on the wildfire in San Bernardino County east of Los Angeles said 38,002 structures were threatened, though it noted there was so far no damage to buildings or any additional casualties beyond the three firefighters injured previously.
Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Monday that the California National Guard will support the ongoing response to the Line Fire, the cause of which is still unknown.
“We’re pouring resources into this incident aggressively by deploying more air and ground support through the California National Guard,” Newsom said in a statement. “This is on top of nearly 2,000 firefighters, nearly 200 engines, and air assets we already have tackling this fire. California stands with these communities and has their backs.”
Monday saw most fire activity in the north and east edges of the wildfire, Cal Fire said, adding, “The fire could remain active overnight as vegetation remains critically dry.”
“Stronger winds are predicted Tuesday which could help fire spread and contribute to longer range spotting. Mid-week cooling may moderate fire activity and increase fuel moistures,” Cal Fire said.
The fire — active since Sept. 5 — is burning in steep and rugged terrain, making access difficult, Cal Fire said. Firefighters, its update added, are working to build “control lines” to contain the blaze.
Evacuation orders are in place for 8,800 structures, with another 29,200 structures under evacuation warnings.
Four UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters for water bucket dropping operations and two C-130 aircraft with Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems will be among the resources deployed by the National Guard, Newsom said.
There will also be 80 troops split into four 20-person hand crews and one military police company to assist the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department with traffic control in evacuated areas.
(NEW YORK) — Police are investigating five separate shootings that occurred Monday night on Interstate 5 in Washington, authorities said.
Police have not confirmed if all of the shootings are connected but have confirmed that several people have been injured across all five incidents, according to a statement from the Washington State Patrol. A suspect was arrested, police said, although it was not immediately clear whether the suspect was connected to all the incidents.
Two women were taken to the hospital and I-5 was briefly closed for police to collect evidence, but it is now reopened and will not be affecting morning traffic, police said.
Trooper Rick Johnson, who is the Washington State Patrol District 2 public information officer for King County, initially posted about the first shooting incident at 9:27 p.m. local time, saying that it had taken place on northbound I-5 at 320th where a single passenger was injured.
Just 15 minutes after the initial report, police said they received another call, this time regarding a shooting on northbound I-5 at MLK. Nobody was injured in that incident but a vehicle did sustain damage.
A third shooting then took place shortly after and Washington State Patrol received a call saying that incident had occurred at northbound I-5 at I-90. One passenger was injured in that instance and the Seattle Fire Department said their crews treated a 20-year-old woman who was reported to be in critical condition, according to ABC News’ Seattle affiliate KOMO-TV.
The fourth and fifth shootings — one that took place on southbound I-5 near State Route 18 and the other on southbound I-5 near 54th in Pierce County — injured two more people but police were able to match the suspect’s vehicle in these incidents to the first shooting that took place on northbound I-5 near 320th, Johnson said.
A suspect was subsequently identified and arrested in the Tacoma area, according to police officials.
“Pierce County Sheriff and Fircrest PD who was the agency that made the arrest after locating the suspect vehicle,” police said.
No other injuries are known at this time and authorities said they will be giving out more information on this case later Tuesday morning.
