Damon Wayans Jr. compares dynamic of ‘Poppa’s House’ to ‘Shrinking’

Damon Wayans Jr. concurrently starred on CBS’ Poppa’s House and Apple TV’s Shrinking, which wrapped its second season Wednesday. Though the former’s a show where he works with his actual family, he says the cast of Shrinking provided a similar feeling.
“I will say that my first day on set of Shrinking felt like family. It felt like they have such a warm environment. All the writers are great. And so you can just tell that they know that they’re sitting on fire. Like, you know, they just have that confidence. When you walk in, you’re like, you guys know you’re doing the right s***….,” Damon tells ABC Audio. “That’s kind of how it feels on this show with my dad.”
While season 2 of Shrinking is over, the premiere season of Poppa’s House is currently on hiatus. New episodes are expected to air in January 2025.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the short lists in 10 award categories on Tuesday: best documentary feature film, best documentary short film, best international feature film, best original score, best original song, best makeup and hairstyling, best visual effects, best animated short film, best live action short film and best sound.
Some of the films on the short lists that may receive nominations at the 97th Academy Awards include Emilia Pérez, Dune: Part Two, Mufasa: The Lion King, Gladiator II and Wicked.
Ahead of the official Oscar nominations announcement on Jan. 17, each short list was determined by members of each corresponding branch, except for international feature film and live action short film lists. For those two categories, Academy members from all branches who have “met a minimum viewing requirement” were invited to participate in the preliminary round of voting.
The 2025 Oscars will take place Sunday, March 2. The ceremony will air live from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on ABC and, for the first time ever, stream live on Hulu.

The trailer to the anticipated face-off between YouTube personality-turned-pro fighter Jake Paul and former world heavyweight champ Mike Tyson starts with a voice-over quoting the latter, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”
The snippet promises, “There’s never been a night like this.”
Paul, 27, was set to fight “The Baddest Man on the Planet,” who is 58, back on July 20, but a health scare in May sidelined Tyson.
Tyson tells DailyMail.com thatan ulcer flare-up left him nauseous and dizzy on May 27, leading to the live event’s postponement. “I was doing too much bad food and stuff, and I got sick,” the legendary boxer says.
He says since then he’s been “eating clean” and is in fighting shape for the battle on Nov. 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
That said, he can’t quit vaping. “I can’t escape the vapes,” he confessed.
The fight is not without controversy, seeing as Paul is fighting someone 30 years his senior. “Iron Mike” tells the publication, “I didn’t take this fight for legacy. I think legacy really, to my perspective, legacy is ego. Who gives a f*** how people think about them when they are gone?”
He adds hypothetically, “I’m dead. I can’t value off what somebody might think about me when I’m dead, so it means nothing to me.”

Much like Texas, it seems like reboots are also forever.
According to Variety, Universal Television is working on bringing back the high school football drama Friday Night Lights with a new storyline and characters.
The original Friday Night Lights show ran from 2006 to 2011 and centered around the fictional Dillon Panthers high school football team in West Texas. It was inspired by the 1990 book of the same name and its 2004 film adaptation, both of which were about the real-life Permian High School Panthers of Odessa, Texas.
The show starred Kyle Chandler as Eric Taylor, coach of the Dillon Panthers and, in later seasons, the school’s crosstown rivals, the East Dillon Lions. Connie Britton, who also starred in the FNL film, played Eric’s wife and Dillon High faculty member, Tami Taylor.
Among those who portrayed the players and students were Zach Gilford, Taylor Kitsch, Scott Porter, Minka Kelly, Gaius Charles and Adrianne Palicki, as well as Michael B. Jordan and Jesse Plemons in early breakout roles.
