Kirsten Dunst is set to star in The Housemaid sequel.

Lionsgate made the casting announcement on social media Monday. Dunst will star as Wendy Garrick in the upcoming film adaptation of The Housemaid’s Secret.

The studio shared a photo of Dunst, along with a quote from author Freida McFadden’s second book in the trilogy, to announce the news.

“Welcome home, Wendy. The Housemaid’s Secret – coming soon,” the post’s caption reads.

The quote Lionsgate shared reads, “I would prefer if you refer to me as Mrs. Garrick.”

Lionsgate announced plans for a film adaptation of The Housemaid’s Secret in January. At the time, the studio announced it would begin production on the film in 2026.

Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone are set to return to their roles of Millie Calloway and Enzo Accardi in the movie. The sequel project is being developed for director Paul Feig to return at the helm. Sweeney will executive produce while Feig also produces through his Pretty Dangerous Pictures alongside Laura Fischer. Rebecca Sonnenshine will once again adapt McFadden’s words for the screen.

The Housemaid follows a woman named Millie (Sweeney), who takes a job as a live-in housemaid for wealthy couple Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar). What started as a dream job quickly becomes a dangerous and seductive game of secrets and scandal. The film grossed over $395 million worldwide.

At the time the sequel was announced, Feig said, “It’s been thrilling to see audiences around the world fall in love with The Housemaid and the incredible work of our talented cast and crew. We’re lucky that Freida McFadden has already extended Millie’s journey on the page, and that we get to work with Rebecca Sonnenshine and Lionsgate to bring this next story to audiences.”

We now know when fans of the Yellowstone franchise can visit the Dutton Ranch.

Paramount+ has released the teaser trailer and premiere date for the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff TV series. Dutton Ranch will premiere its first two episodes to the streaming service on May 15. It stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser returning to their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler.

Also starring in the series are Oscar nominees Ed Harris and Annette Bening. The rest of the cast includes Finn Little, Juan Pablo Raba, Jai Courtney, J.R. Villarreal, Marc Menchaca and Natalie Alyn Lind.

The minute-long teaser trailer shows off the tensions at play in this new show.

“A legacy is a beautiful thing,” Beth Dutton tells Bening’s character, Beulah Jackson, in the trailer. “But only if it survives.

Dutton Ranch follows Beth and Rip, who “are grateful for the peace they sought, fought, and nearly died for with their 7,000-acre Dutton Ranch,” according to a press release. “With tough times and stiff competition, Beth and Rip do what they must to survive, all while ensuring Carter becomes the man he’s supposed to be.”

As Beth and Rip fight to build their future far away from Yellowstone and all its ghosts, “they collide with brutal new realities and a ruthless rival ranch that will stop at nothing to protect its empire. In South Texas, blood runs deeper, forgiveness is fleeting, and the cost of survival might just be your soul,” an official synopsis reads.

Chad Feehan serves as showrunner on the new series. Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan executive produces, as do stars Hauser and Reilly.

“Are you ready to be the hero?” Maui asks Moana.

Amanda Peet reveals breast cancer diagnosis in emotional essay

Amanda Peet is opening up about her breast cancer diagnosis, which she learned of around the same time both of her parents were in hospice care.

In a personal essay published Saturday in The New Yorker, the actress detailed the difficult period, sharing that she had long been monitored closely due to having “dense” and “busy” breasts, which require extra screening.

“I had been seeing a breast surgeon every six months for checkups,” she wrote.

After a routine scan in late August showed an unusual ultrasound result, Peet said her doctor performed a biopsy that detected a tumor, which “appeared” small but required an MRI to determine “the extent of the disease.”

As she began planning the next steps in her treatment, Peet said her parents — who were “long divorced” and lived on “opposite coasts” — both entered hospice care. Her father died suddenly before she was able to reach him.

“Our mother’s had started in June, but our father’s was only a week in, so we hadn’t expected him to go first,” she wrote. “I flew to New York. I didn’t make it before my father took his last breath, but I got to see his body before it was taken from his apartment.”

Peet, who is married to David Benioff and shares three children with him, said that upon returning to Los Angeles, she learned her stage 1 cancer was “hormone-receptor-positive” and “HER2-negative,” news that briefly made her feel “happier than I’d been pre-diagnosis, when I was just a regular person who didn’t have cancer.”

“But after about 10 minutes, I remembered that I still needed the MRI and regressed to baseline terror,” she wrote, explaining that her doctor told her the radiologist would also examine her lymph nodes and “the left side for any surprise findings,” with results expected within a week.

“It was dawning on me that cancer diagnoses come in a slow drip,” she wrote.

Doctors later found another mass in her breast that was determined to be benign, and she said her treatment would include a lumpectomy and radiation.

Concluding her essay, Peet shared tender moments of a bittersweet farewell with her mother, who had battled Parkinson’s disease, recalling the final moments they shared together.

“The morphine was taking forever to kick in, and she was looking at the ceiling and whimpering, so I climbed onto her rented hospital bed to get in her line of vision,” she wrote. “We locked eyes and she quieted down, and then she and I continued to stare at each other for what felt like several minutes.”

She added, “I wasn’t sure whether my mom knew that she was looking at me or whether I was just a constellation of interesting, disembodied shapes. I said ‘howdy doodle’ — that’s how she often greeted me. But then I realized that she was communing without words, and I followed suit. Time was running out, and, besides, I had already told her everything.”

Former Buffy the Vampire Slayer stars are mourning the loss of actor Nicholas Brendon, who died at 54.

Brendon, who portrayed Xander Harris on the long-running supernatural drama, was a central figure in the series’ original cast and remained closely connected to fans of the show in the years that followed.

Alyson Hannigan, who starred alongside Brendon for years on the series, shared a heartfelt note on Instagram on Friday, reflecting on their friendship.

“My Sweet Nicky, thank you for years of laughter, love and Dodgers,” she wrote. “I will think of you every time I see a rocking chair. I love you. RIP.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played Buffy, also honored Brendon with a deeply personal post, referencing a poignant line tied to the show’s themes of identity and belonging.

“They’ll never know how tough it is to be the one who isn’t chosen. To live so near to the spotlight, and never step in it,” Gellar wrote. “But I know. I see more than anybody realizes, because nobody’s watching me.”

She added, “I saw you Nicky. I know you are at peace, in that big rocking chair in the sky.”

Other Buffy stars to pay tribute to Brendon include David Boreanaz, who played Angel on the show before moving to his own spinoff; Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia, a love interest of Brendon’s character; and Emma Caulfield, who played former demon Anya, who also became a love interest for Brendon’s character.

The news of Brendon’s death was confirmed in a statement shared on his official Facebook page, revealing he passed away in his sleep from natural causes. The message described him as “passionate, sensitive, and endlessly driven to create,” noting that in recent years he had turned his focus to painting and art, which he often shared with loved ones and fans.

His death marks another loss for the Buffy community. In 2025, Michelle Trachtenberg, who played Buffy’s younger sister, Dawn Summers, also passed away.

“We are heartbroken to share the passing of our brother and son, Nicholas Brendon. He passed in his sleep of natural causes,” reads the statement. “Most people know Nicky for his work as an actor and for the characters he brought to life over the years. In recent years Nicky has found his passion in painting and art. Nicky loved to share his enthusiastic talent with his family, friends and fans.”

“He was passionate, sensitive, and endlessly driven to create. Those who truly knew him understood that his art was one of the purest reflections of who he was,” the post continues. “Our family asks for privacy during this time as we grieve his loss and celebrate the life of a man who lived with intensity, imagination, and heart.”

Brendon rose to fame playing Xander Harris on all seven seasons of the hit WB series Buffy The Vampire Slayer, opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan. Outside of TV, he appeared in several films, including the 2000 comedy Psycho Beach Party, which also starred Lauren Ambrose and Amy Adams, and the 2002 horror film Demon Island.

Brendon was frequently in the news for legal troubles: He’d been arrested multiple times, with his first arrest happening 2010. Charges he faced over the years included resisting arrest, battery, felony vandalism, malicious injury and more. He also dealt with substance abuse issues, and went to rehab for addiction to alcohol and sleeping pills.

Brendon is the second member of the Buffy The Vampire Slayer cast to die in recent years. Michelle Trachtenberg, who played Buffy’s sister, Dawn Summers, passed away in 2025.
